Royal Mail statement 3rd december 2011: Since the announcement in June 2011, of our proposal to merge Guisborough and Redcar delivery offices, we have been undertaking detailed planning in consultation with both the local and regional CWU. As part of this process we constantly reviewed the original plans against a very challenging national economic and operational climate. As a result of this review we have concluded that the various benefits of this move are no longer as significant as initially anticipated. A massive thank you to all who helped make this happen, a personal thanks to Colin Bowmaker, Tom Blenkinsop, Joe Keenan, Guisborough Town Council, Coastal News and GTFC.

Royal Mail have announced the decision that Guisborough Delivery office is to be closed and the work transferred to Redcar.
This decision was made by Royal Mail behind closed doors, no involvement with the CWU (Communication Workers Union), no discussion with the staff, no thought for the customer and above all no care for the community it serves.
Following this announcement the CWU Cleveland Amal Branch acted upon the wishes of its members within Guisborough to campaign against such a move. An online petition was set up; petitions around the town were distributed and the local football club have arranged a game in the 1st Division of the Northern League in support of our campaign. (Full details are available on all events taking place in our news section of this site)
We will not just give in and allow Royal Mail to push their decision through without a fight; we have to date collected 1700 signatures and will continue to get the support of all who care about our campaign and the effects it will have on the residents of Guisborough and the surrounding areas.
Events will be organised to promote our campaign and further details will be posted on this site for your information.
Please support our campaign to stop this decision taking place, the Cleveland Amal Branch care about the very people we provide a service for, we care about the community we serve and we will always try to protect such service for our customers.
